Strong talkers become strong readers.
Children's oral language — vocabulary, sentence structure, and the ability to tell and follow a story — is one of the strongest predictors of later reading comprehension. Fidelity helps school districts, educators, and families build that foundation on purpose, from preschool through elementary school.

The Research
Reading comprehension rests on two pillars.
The Simple View of Reading (Gough & Tunmer, 1986) describes comprehension as the product of word recognition and language comprehension. If either one is weak, understanding suffers — no matter how strong the other is. Many programs focus on decoding. We make sure the language side grows just as deliberately.

Birth–8
The years when oral language grows fastest — and when intentional teaching has the biggest payoff.
Grade 3+
When texts shift from “learning to read” to “reading to learn,” and language gaps start to show.
Every day
Conversation, read-alouds, and back-and-forth talk are the most powerful — and most available — tools.
The Fidelity Learning Curriculum
Six strands of the language system.
Each strand is taught explicitly, practiced through play and talk, and woven into read-alouds and content learning.
Vocabulary
Rich, robust word learning — Tier 2 words, word families, and the “word consciousness” that keeps kids curious.
Syntax & Grammar
Understanding and building complex sentences with connectives like because, although, and unless.
Narrative & Discourse
Retelling, story grammar, and explaining — the structures children need to follow longer texts.
Background Knowledge
Knowledge-building text sets in science and social studies so new words land in meaningful context.
Listening Comprehension & Inference
Asking and answering “why” and “how” questions, predicting, and reading between the lines — out loud first.
Phonological Awareness
Rhyme, syllables, and sounds — the bridge that connects spoken language to printed words.
PreK: Talk, Play, Wonder
